I have a 1991 240. It idles ok but will not accelerate. It bogs down and backfires. Have replaced the Mass Air Flow and now am getting codes for the Air control valve and O2sensor. Any one got an idea that will help me. Im at my witts end.

It sounds like the engine is not getting enough fuel. How much gas do you have in the tank? Is it below 1/2 tank? If so, there is a good chance that the in-tank fuel pump hose has split. Try filling the tank, if the problem goes away, it is definitely the in-tank hose, if not, one of the fuel pumps has failed.

No power and backfire is a sign of a lean condition, unless the timing belt slipped. My money is on the in-tank hose/pump, or the in-line pump.

Check the throttle switch. It may not be telling the ECU that the owner wants off idle. It needs to click right when the throttle plate opens. The connector to it may be off or its got dirty contacts.
