Ball joint installation 200

I'm reworking the front end suspension on my 1991 240 wagon with power steering,I'm to the point where I put in the ball joints, the ball joints I removed had the "off set" forward of the ball joint center line. The part numbers from FCP Groton and the OEM P/N also from FCP indicates the "off set" should be aft of the ball joint center line. Which is correct???

The ball joints should be installed with the offset--relative to the center line of the control arm--going forward. The purpose is to provide more positve caster which aids straight line stability--think of the forks on a bicycle--kicked out front, the bike is more stabile. Consider how the bike would handle if the forks were straight up and down. Non power steering cars have less caster to ease steering effort (ball joints without the offset)--but the offset type can be used for more steering "feel". -- Dave

Dave Thanks for the speedy reply. The off-set forward is the way they came off and that's the way I"ll put them back on. Thanks
