Hi All, I'm new to the message board but have gleaned some good advice from watching the posts, thanks for all that you contribute. This is my first post. I have a new volo in the family, a '92, 244. Engine has been running perfectly since we bought it in March. Drove it the other day, turned it off and went into a store. Came back 10 minutes later while the engine was still ho, and it would only crank - no spark. Swapped out the coil with one from our '89, still no spark. Tried it hot and cold with the same results. Then one day, heard a click in what I thought was the aluminum covered relay that is mounted near the coil under the hood. Taped it with my screwdriver, started right up, only to die on me 5 minutes later when I took it out for a spin. I've seen some posts for 740's about this being a problem with a crank sensor...do you think that is my issue or are there relays that go first? Any advice would be appreciated. Bernie

    The white fuel system relay mounted in the passenger foot well up near the firewall is a likely suspect. Hold the relay and listen or feel for two clicks as you turn the key to start the car. If you do not have 2 clicks the engine won't start.

    If it won't start place a jumper wire on the left side of fuses 4 and 6, this will force both fuel pumps to run. If it starts the relay is bad.

    Check the crank sensor behind the head on top of the transmission bell housing for frayed wires. If the insulation is deteriorated the wires can short and the engine will not run.

    It would be a good idea to replace both these items as a preventative measure, your car will be more reliable and dependable.

      I cannot hear or feel anything coming out of the white relay on the passenger side. Thanks Dan, I am going to replace it right away. Any idea what this relay is called? Bernie

        Fuel pump or fuel system relay. It is 2 relays in one case one for the fuel pumps and the other supplies power to the fuel injection ECU. If you can solder the circuit board you may be able to get it going but I would replace it.
