With a shout out to FAQ writers Don Foster, Jay Simkin, and Patrick Paul.
A short fourth of July weekend story;
I came across a VERY cherry, one owner, garaged, low miles 940 on CL Friday and knew at the listing price it was buy within the hour or it would be gone. No chance to check it out extensivly,
The price was so low because the overdrive was broken and no AC. The seller had brought a new Volvo and was selling her old one cheap because that's all the dealer had offered her on the trade in. Plus they quoted her $1,100-$2,000 for the AC repair.
Anyway I gave her the cash and drove the 100+ miles from from Palm Beach to Miami slowly, in third gear, sweating like a hog.
I got to it this afternoon, two hours digging around in the dash with a meter, soldering iron and my laptop open in the FAQs,
Just as the writers predicted, both issues were bad connections on PC boards and are fixed with a penny's worth of solder.
The failures were invisible to the (my) naked eye but right were the writers said they'd be.
So between the low sales price and the(no)repair bill, I guess I'm up a couple grand.
In thanks, I'm sending in a modest contribution the board and thanks again to the FAQ writers, in this case, Don Foster, Jay Simkin, and Patrick Paul, whoever you are.
