Hi,
I have access Volvo car top carrier box that has mounting bars designed for the pre-installed parallel roof rails. Problem is, my 87 240 wagon has no rails or roof rack. I'm wondering if there might be a way to mount it to a standard rain gutter roof rack (bars going across the car), or perhaps some other solution???Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

This is what I have had on both my 240's (this set survived a 3x roll-over) and they will support 2 Chevy truck doors... (in transit from Junk Yard)

make sure you get MORE THAN ONE key on the locks... the keys are the only flimsy things I've found from Yakima

What you want to look around for are some stainless steel dental picks that a hygienist uses.
If you visit one just ask for one or two used ones. I’m sure they have some bent or broken short curled ones that you can fashion to fit down the sides of the key slot.

I have found them in small sets at swap meets on some occasions.
You might check for them in military surplus stores and definitely in hobby shop stores.
They keep them stashed in locked glass cases most of the time for Model makers and Sculpture people.

Getting a that little bit of patience you need to use them, comes with holding your tongue in between your teeth, just right!

If it is cheap enough, buy it, and then buy the gutter racks seperately. Someone out there will want just a roof rack for their 850 or later, and you can do a trade or sale. That's my .02.

Thanks. I did end up buying it as it was pretty cheap. It looks like it will actually fit either both a roof rack and fixed roof rails so I'm happy.
