Wing window seal replacement 120-130 1966

Hello all,

I've got a brand new set of seals to go on to a new (to me, anyway) set of wing windows for my '66 2-door.

Problem is I'm not sure how to mount them. There seem to be rivets of some sort holding the old seal in place.

Can someone give me some advice on how to attack this? The Haynes manual didn't have any useful info on the subject.

Thanks!

I used a hand-held pop riveter after I drilled out the old ones. It's awkward and time consuming to get everything right but it makes a big difference with new seals.

I remember having to carefully bend the pivot to make it seal completely and it was very tough to open and close the first few times but gradually loosened.

I was able to Pop rivet the new ones into place. It is the rivet on the outside hinge that kicked my butt. I even turned some custom dies to clinch the new rivets, but that didn't work. I'm getting some small allen screws and lock nuts................

Any of the vendors that carry all of the pieces for these old cars have rivets available seperately. I usually deal with Olof at vintageimportparts.com, but veteranproductor may be closer to you. They will have hints and I think tools to use (buy) to do your installation. I'll guess that you'll have to carefully drill out the old rivets, put the new ones in, (and here's the clincher, so to speak) figure out how to peen the new rivet without breaking your window or ruining your trim. On my '67, I was lucky enough to find a door at a swap meet that had all of the window jewelry in OK shape, so it was just time involved in changing door locks and interior trim panels, etc. Good luck to you. A full service upholstery shop may have done this kind of procedure before. They might do it for you fairly inexpensively if you have everything out of the car and ready to go. Let us know what you find out!
