battery won't stay charged 200

volvo 240 station wagon 1985 269,000. While using the wagon to jumpstart my tractor, the cable from the alternator to the battery came off. There was a large spark at the battery post. I put the cable back on the car it never stalled. Since then the battery won't stay charged overnight. I thought i may have fryed my battery. So i put the new battery from my truck in the wagon. It won't stay charged overnight either. Any ideas what i may have fried? What should i be looking for? Thanks
