door handle will not open from the outside 200

on my recently injured 1986 245 the driver door will not open from the outside. if it has anything to do with the accident then i'm even more puzzled, considering it worked for nearly two days afterwards, then just stopped all of a sudden. the handle will come up most of the way, but there is no click or anything, as if the door is locked. when looking at the locking mechanism from the side (door is open) i see nothing move, unlike when i use the inside handle.

thoughts, ideas? THANK YOU!!

Be careful removing the panel for inspection, as the clips will tear out of the backing if you're not careful with your prying tool. You will see how all the linkage works when you get inside the door. It is also a great time to spray some lubricant of choice onto the various articulating parts in there. My favorite is a small shot of lithium grease, but everyone has there favorites. You will probably be in to this about an hour to an hour and a half timewise. Good luck!

Probably what Volvo from Heck suggested but also could be that the attachment at the handle broke off. I have one like this now and just fixed my wife's. Requires handle replacement.

Inside the door there is a link that goes from the latch to the handle--sitting in a little cradle at the top--it probably popped out of place--you'll have to take the inside panel off to set it back. -- Dave
