I have a 1991 240 that is blue in color. The body is in excellent condition, but the clearcoat has mostly peeled off of the hood. Is it possible to compound or buff and wax the hood and get a shine without re-doing the clearcoat? Thanks.

The base coat is not strong enough to withstand any significant waxing and would turn white with most waxes. I hate to say it, but the best way to fix it is sand off the rest of the clear coat, prime, wet sand, base coat, then clear coat. If you just clear coat over the remnants of the old clear coat, it will just peel again.
