Hey guys,

I have a well maintained 242 (1982) that I just replaced the plugs on (NGK BP6ES) as well as the rotor and cap (Chrysler white cap / electronic ignition). This is something I've done many times to good effect.

The NGK plugs that I pulled were in good shape --- no signs of fouling or overheating. However, they were gaped to about a .038 to .04 in. rather than the .032 in. that I unusually gap them to.

The NKG that went in were all gaped pretty careful to .032 in. I torque them all to about 22pds using a bit of anti-seize grease on the threads --- none on the electrodes.

The engine fires right up, but runs a little rougher than it did before the plug replacement.

Any suggestions about what I may have done wrong in the installation process to cause the rough idle? All the plug wires seem solidly attached, as are the wires to the distributor cap and coil.

try to isolate the problem by pulling the cap off the plug, one at a time when the engine is running. If the idle doesn't change, that will pinpoint the problem a little closer.

My guess is that one of the wires got damaged when you removed it from the plug. I can be as careful as possible and still break the wire at the crimp for the contact.

Sometimes plugs are bad out of the box.
