That doesn't sound right for a stickshift.
K-Jet doesn't like air leaks are your hoses good?
You should be 20+ mpg in combined driving, and @25+ at 60-65 on the freeway.

well, i wish i fully understood what all the hoses and lines are for. i believe it is all correct. i have no idea how many miles are really on it, but i have to adjust the valves every 3-4 months. ?any tuning secrets?

First thing you ought to do is make sure your car is in good tune, rolls freely (no dragging brakes, etc)
and has good wheel alignment and properly inflated tires.
The brake hoses on 140/164 are small and tend to swell shut making the brakes drag and overheat.
Braided lines are the cure for that.
You definitely should be getting 20 mpg or better.
After you get all that stuff checked out, the most straightforward, bolt-in thing you can do is put in
an M41 overdrive tranny. The tranny itself is identical to yours but has the Laycock-deNormanville overdrive
on the back which will give you a 20% higher effective gear. It is a good, rugged box.
You'll have to get the mating tranny mount and a short front driveshaft, but with that it bolts in.

Hard telling. Depends on how bad you want it and how bad the person that has it wants to get rid of it
(or needs the money).
I paid $100 plus shipping for my first one and I think something like $75 plus shipping for the second one.
I paid $250 for an M410, which is about the same value (but fits a B30 engine)
