1995 940 Fuel pump relay location mistery. Relay not in usual location? 900

I have a 1995 940 with a ghost fuel pump relay or something. This relay in my other 940 Volvos is behind the fuses right in front of the light bulb failure sensor. In my 1995 940 there is nothing there. Is there another location for the fuel pump relay in this car?

The schematic I attached to my last post didn't work, so here's a link to the relay schematic for 1994-95 Volvo 940 that shows the fuel pump relay in position "M". http://www.davebarton.com/pdf/1994-940relaylocations.pdf

1995 940 Fuel pump relay location mistery. Relay not in usual location? 900

I just encountered the same issue on my 1995 Volvo 940 and even the Volvo dealership couldn't help me. The Volvo dealership parts department referenced their relay schematic and said the fuel pump relay is in position "E" except that I don't have a relay there. Not even IPD or FCPeuro were able to help me and I ordered the wrong relay from FCPeuro based on their fitment guide for my vehicle. The fuel pump relay was actually a small sugar cube shaped 5-prong relay that is BLUE with product #Volvo 9130270. I don't believe they make this part any longer but the new replacement is product #9494787. I was able to find better information from Dave Barton's website that shows the fuel pump relay in position "M" for 1994-95 Volvo 940s. I've tried to attach a relay schematic from his website. Even though his schematic shows the fuel pump relay in position "M" it also shows the fuel injection relay in position "E" but that spot does not have a relay in my car. Upon further investigation on other Volvo forums, it seems that Volvo had issues with noise from radio frequencies and whatnot interfering with the fuel injection relay so they made the noise suppression relay (AKA radio suppression relay) the primary relay for the fuel injection and put that in the engine bay where it would be away from the radio. I hope this helps! I also found more good info on this website: http://www.240turbo.com/volvorelays.html

      Dear ping0ra,

Hope you're well. My first post in reply to Volvito's query set forth the location of the fuel pump relay in the '95 940: on the central relay block, first row (that closest to the front seats), cubic in shape and bright blue.

      Hope this helps.

      Yours faithfully,

      Spook

Use green cube relay instead of blue cube relay for longevity 900

        Hi Spook and fellow brickers,

I recommend using the green cube relay (Volvo #9162250 / Hella #4RD 003 520-63) instead of the blue cube (Volvo #9130270 / Hella # 4RD 003 520-52) based on the technical article below.

        Technical article:
        http://www.te.com/commerce/DocumentDelivery/DDEController?Action=srchrtrv&DocNm=13C3264_AppNote&DocType=CS&DocLang=EN

Basically the article above states a relay using resistor for coil suppression (such as the green Hella) have longer contacts service life than a relay using diode for suppression (the blue Hella). Relays using resistor have quicker contact separation time (when a relay is powered OFF) compared to those using diode. This prolongs the contacts life.

Relay coil suppression is important to prevent high kick-back voltage damaging the ECU's electronic circuit driving the relay.

        Regards,
        Amarin.

          Dear Amarin,

Hope you're well. Thank you for interpreting the Tyco Engineering article! While the words are English, it likely was translated from German.

The Green cube relay part number is now: 9494787. It costs about US$27 at a North American volvo dealer.

          Hope this helps.

          Yours faithfully,

          Spook

I went through this as well on my 95. It is the blue one on the front row, to the right.

I have been looking all over the internet and everyone offers the tall white for that year model as well as older models. What the hell I will have to as for to get this type of relay. This is not a all purpose type relay is a switch type. One 87 terminal swicthes to the other 87 terminal. Oh... man with Volvo I get surprised everytime.

        Estimado Don Volvito,

May this find You well. The blue fuel injection relay part number is 9494787 (old part #: 9130270). It should cost less than $20, at a dealer.

        Hope this helps.

    Estimado Don Volvito,

May this find You Well. On some 1994 and - I believe - almost all 1995 940s, the fuel pump relay is:
    (a) Bright Blue
    (b) in the middle of the first row of relays (that closest to the passenger seats)
    (c) is marked: Hella 12V, 003-520-52 Made in Spain

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook

      Hello folks
my 95 940 turbo uses the tall white one.
my 94 940 turbo uses the tall white one.
the blue relay you speak of can be found on some 940s with the foglight setup and it runs the foglights. also a orange one will run the relays.
      good luck
      Mike.

      Thank you seƱor spook
Kind of strange, because I went to eeuroparts.com and for that year model the relay they have for the fuel pump is the typical tall white relay.
