FYI on Turbo oil changes. Must Read!

I noticed the other day that my father's '88 744Ti 4 spd w/od. 225K had an extreme oil leak and I DO mean an extreme leak. You could see the oil trail following the car. I had him park the car until I could look at it. It turns out that the 28mm nut attaching the oil cooler adapter to the oil filter mount had come loose over the years from spinning the oil filter on and off. My father was extremely lucky that he had enough oil in the pan to make it home before catastrophic engine damage. I would reccommend to every turbo owner to check this nut for tightness at every oil change. This leak occurred with-in 5 miles of engine start-up and had not shown any evidence of prior leaking. I think the oil filter was holding the adapter tight until the filter worked a little loose.

I would hate to see a fellow Brickster loose his/her engine over a simple but potentially severe problem that I have overlooked in 10 plus years of Volvo maintenance.
