Drive shaft angle 200 1984

I am finally installing the lowered springs in my 242. I have adjustable panhard rod and the other ones to adjust the angle of the drive shaft. However I have NO clue what that angle should be. Didn't find any reference to it in the Bently manual. Anyone know what that angle should be? Any suggestions on setting it? (I am replacing the WHOLE rear end)

Thanks!!

Andrew

    Drive shaft angle 200 1984

I lowered my 87 240GL about a year ago while my son drove it in high school. I have known for a while the some rear bushing were bad. After getting a bushing kit and making the tool to replace the rear trailing arm bushing, I took a good look to see which one were bad. The Rear bushing were toast. Replacing those two cleared up most of the vibration in my car but I still need the adjustable torque arms. I'm going to install them but too adjust them I'm going to a shop that can raise the car with the wheel Vs raising with the rear axle or jack points.

The pinion angle should be equal to the transmission output shaft angle as measured on the Ujoint bearing caps.

Here is a pretty good explanation:

      Shannon,

Excellent link that you provided. One question it brings up is that the 240 uses a two piece drive shaft rather than a one piece like in the link. Does that mean that the angle calculations/measurements should be made between the center support bearing and the pinion? I think this is correct.

When I did our 92 245, I set the new adjustable torque rods to the same length as the originals and then shortened them by either one half or one and a half turn (sorry can't recall which). The idea is to minimize the angle between the rear drive shaft and the pinion.

ps. hopefully, someone can give you the actual numbers.
