replacement parts - quality difference between brands 700 1990

Specifically plugs/wires/distributor. I'm looking to do general tune-up maintenance on my recently purchased 760.

FCP sells:
Bosch vs. Bremi dist cap (and rotor)
Bosch vs. Bougicord wires
Bosch vs. NGK plugs

Your opinions? Are the cheaper alternatives just fine (quality wise), or are they a known "stay away" item?

Mac

Hey Mac,

FCP Groton is a great place, but I have looked around, and Tasca Volvo (www.tascavolvoparts.com) has the OE wire set from Bougicord for a bit less than what FCP gets. They also ship to your door and there is no sales tax outside of MA. They also have the OE distributor cap for about ten bucks less than what FCP charges. The wire set that the dealer sells is a grade better than the aftermarket (FCP, Eeuroparts, etc) places sell, although they are both very good. They have the rotor for a reasonable cost as well, although you may be able to get that for a few bucks less at another place. I would recommend the NGK copper plugs. They work great and are affordable. You can get them at your local auto parts chain. Those should be less than ten bucks for a set. Don't bother with the special unobtainium tipped plugs that cost eight dollars apiece. They aren't worth it in this application IMO. Good luck with your tune-up.

I've always had good results with FCP Groton's parts. Bosch is good for the cap and plugs. Bougicord is a standard wire (I think it means plug wire or something like that). Buy what you can afford. Almost anything online will be 30% of the Volvo dealer price.
