Armored cable removing 120-130

I have my steering wheel off and seats out, figure would be a good time to remove the armored cable and wire in a new coil.

Should I remove cable as whole unit with switch, and sell it as complete. (it works fine).

Or is its value not worth the trouble and just cut it off. (sawzall)

It works but it would be easier to upgrade it now and because I dont know how old it is it makes sense to me to remove it now while it is easier to work on the car.

    If it works, why replace it? They are pretty well bomb proof. What other non wearing parts of the car do you routinely replace when they are working perfectly? A new lock barrel and keys plus a push button start conversion would be higher on my list, IF, I had some spare cash and there was nothing else to spend it on.

      I only wan t to replace because t could be 43 years old. It seems a new one would have less chance of stranding me. And I am in a good position to do it.
      Push start i have already done. Depending on what switch i use would depend on whether a lock barrel change was in order.

        Armored cable removing...Why? 120-130

        selym;

        I agree with Derek...the IGN Switch-Armored Cable-Coil assemblies have an excellent track record and don“t need replacement for service-time only...the lock cylinders DO need help in the form of a Start Switch to prevent key failure...for details on Armored Cable and IGN in general, see: http://www.sw-em.com/Volvo%20Ignition%20from%20Scratch.htm#Vintage%20Volvo%20Ignition%20system%20and%20the%20Armored%20Cable

        Cheers

    It is best to save it if possible. They do go for a decent price when a purist wants one. However, I'm not sure what you are going to use to start the car w/o the switch.

    You can always bypass the old coil and wire up a new one leaving the whole shebang in place - but I never thought it looked that clean.

    Myself, I saved both intact setups, and have a couple severed switches I used to wire up a "modern" coil. I also use a "shot" coil, cut the top off and installed a newer coil into the holder - that way there's no big 3" hole in the firewall...
