Oil leaking badly after oil filter adaptor black seal replacement 900 1995

I was replacing seals on oil return line from turbo, distributor seals, oil filter adaptor seal. It all went well, other that it took me awhile.

Today I fill the car with oil and started it and immediately there's a lot of leaking like almost pouring from the oil cooler areal where I put in the black seal.

I was wondering if i tightened it enough or what else could be the problem.
I put it onto a little bit of silicone grease between two flat surfaces on the oil adapter and on the oil cooler. Then I tightened it as well as I could with and adjustable wrench. I admit i might have not done a good job with tightening it well enough, but this much leaking its awful.

Did i do it right, as far as placing the seal. I did not find any groove to put it in.

thanks a buch

car is 95 944T auto with 129K miles on it.

I ran into the same problem with my father's '87 744Ti. Volvo used two different manufacturers for their oil cooler adapters. I would reccommend taking the adapter to the dealership so that they can confirm which one it is and order the correct one.

I'm betting you have the wrong O-ring.

There are 3 o-rings on the oil cooler, 2 green and 1 black. I would replace all of them since they are cheap enough. You say you did Not see a groove where the black seal sits ? I just looked at my old oil cooler and it does have a ring groove. Did you put the cooler upside down perhap's ?? That looks possible as the otherside does Not have a groove. Hope this helps.
