Installed a sport exhaust... and my idle speed is now higher? 120-130

I just put a Simons sport exhaust on my wagon with the B20F and Mikunis.
The idle speed is probably 150 RPM higher now, does this sound normal?

The car had a stock factory exhaust on it. I'm wondering if the old muffler might have collapsed inside and gotten plugged.

Acceleration is a lot quicker off the line; I would have expected something to happen only at higher RPM's; the car accelerated so fast I scared myself when I took it out for a test drive...

What kind of mpg are you getting with the Mikunis?

Where did you get the kit from?

      The kit was from v-performance.com

Expect to get a box of stuff with no documentation whatsoever, and you'll have to fabricate your own choke arrangement... unless the kit has improved lately.

If you've never dealt with anything other than SU's it can be puzzling trying to adjust the things, and the Mikuni tuning guide is written for motorcycle applications that use only one carb. If you've never laid ass upon a motorcycle the guide is even more confusing.

I haven't found anything that thoroughly explains the theory of operation of the Mikunis' and had to resort to emailing a guy selling kits for Triumph sportscars to get some of my basic questions answered because I have no frame of reference for how the carbs are supposed to behave.

I have no idea what the fuel economy is like; it doesn't seem to be atrocious.

Performance is good once the engine is fully warmed up, performance when cold is lousy even with the choke, and I have to assume some more hardware changes will have to be made to the carbs at this point; which is why I shelled out for an AFR gauge.

It is NOT a kit for beginners, and DON'T expect the carbs to be setup correctly
for your engine right out of the box.

certainly sounds like you have improved the situation across the range.
Can you adjust it back down to where you want it?

I don't expect to have any problems adjusting the idle; I'll do it when I hook up the air-fuel ratio gauge. I had a bung for an O2 sensor installed on the Simons kit before I put it on the car, and just got one of the Innovate Motorsports AFR
      gauge kits.

I will be very curious to see what kind of useful information it can give me.

I did the same thing when I put the Skandix sport exhaust on my 122. The A/F meter (hope you got a wideband) has been quite useful in getting the Weber on my car jetted right- some of the jetting defies logic, but the meter tells me what's what (for instance I have the leanest idle jet Weber sells now) and has helped in getting good power and good mileage. It was worth it IMHO.

        Me too!
Sure hope you post the results.
