1800es Brake Rotors 1800 1972

This is a new thread because the last thread was a while back.

RockAuto.com has the rear rotors at about the best price and they are just fine. They do not have the front rotors. They think that they do, but what they ship don't fit the 1800. Thier calipers are fine and a great price.

Nobody would turn the front rotors for me becasue they are below spec. The rotors are solid and fairly thick. I had a shop turn them for me, just kissing the surface and making them 90% true. I had a brake line shop (think diesel truck..) Make a .050" thicker set of brake pads. I was surprised that the cost was not more than new pads. I had used them prior for shoes for a '53 Imperial I own and they saved me bucks. Now I use them for relining clutches and all sorts of stuff. They find my requests humorous, but do the work very well.

So... don't get rid of your 1800 front rotors and if you find some mounted on a junk car, collect them. No one is making the tall hat rotors and it does not look like they will be. I am looking at the idea of having a rotor plate made that will attach to the exisiting hat after it is turned to a specific thickness. I am sure that nobody will manufacture this part as the liability issues would have to be tested, but seems to me a reasonable solution.

They are availible, but not in stock and $199 each from my Volvo dealer and $175 from Volvoworld plus freight. Paid $1000 for the car. Just paid over $600 to get a new windshield installed and over $300 for rotors and calipers and lines. The $400 or so for front rotors is money I don't intend on spending if there is a way around it.

The good news is the cars are going up in value.

The sad fact is that I can buy a whole p1800 for less than the cost of the rotors for an 1800es. Not enough 1800es's around anymore. I have three and the last one I had to pay $1000 for and it needs rotors...

Hello,

If I have the time, I try to get the rotors cyro-treated to make them last longer.
