Another non-Volvo thing.... 700

Hi folks,

A gal I know at work mentioned to me that her oil light came on a while ago - sort of nonspecific - and I had her run the car around and then I checked the oil for her. It was about halfway between min and max, and quite dirty... I advised an ASAP oil change. Any other thoughts, folks?

I have had both a 92 geo prizm and a 2001 Jeep Liberty exhibit the same problem
and in both cases changing out the oil pressure sending switch does the trick. apparently as some cars age the switches either fail or get partially plugged.
Last one was my Moms jeep, just googled Jeep Liberty and Oil Light and wallah!
Sent her to the Stealership with specific instructions to simply request the removal and replacment of said part(NO DIAG CHARGE just replace the Damn part) at book time(.5 labor). They dont like it and try to scare with "we'll do it but no gaurantees as whether it fixes the problem"...whatever!

Really boils down to whether the light is lying or telling the truth. :-)

If the truth, oil pump. If lying, oil pressure sender or wiring.

Some cars do have oil "quality' sensor like things. No experience there.

If it really was the oil pump, it probably wouldn't still be running. Also could be really, really worn rings that dropped the oil pressure to dangerous levels. In which case it won't matter shortly.
