My son Smashed his '88 240 Wagon !! 200

Good Morning Folks;
It has come time to say adios to my son Barrie's Volvo 240 wagon. He was driving home last night from his summer job at his college when he hit a pile of steel plate that had fallen into the centre of the road. These were the 12" x 12" base plates that attach the railroad rails to the wooden ties or sleepers. There must have been 50 of them in a pile along with a whole bunch of railroad spikes. Whether they had fallen off a rail service truck or if somebody was trying to steal them and sell for scrap we don't know but the police on the scene said that there has been a lot of metal thefts of late.
He swerved as best he could and struck the steel with the LH side of the car. The LH front suspension is ripped of the chassis where the drag struts attach, there is a big gash in the LH rocker panel and the floor has a couple of holes in it. Two of the new tires that he bought 2 days ago have been destroyed as are his nice freshly painted 760 series alloy wheels.
On top of this the insurance company says they will not cover the car under the comprehensive policy as he was driving the car and it now becomes a collision. He has one way insurance, ie no collision coverage.
So if anybody out there finds a rust free 240 wagon (or a coupe) with a 5 speed transmission, give us a call. Max budget is $1500.00. As long as it runs well enough to get home, we can do the rest. We can do a west coast run if we have to (we are in easter Ontario, Canada), but might need to stash the car somewhere for a month or so.

I just saw a couple of nice 240s on ebay this morning, in eastern US I believe. Worth a look-see.
