How to get gas out of my 960? 900 1996

My '96 965 is sick. The engine is running rough, I might post about this later; I expect to get it to my Volvo guy soon. But what I'd like to know now is:

I have 19-20 gallons in my 965. I've never siphoned gas out of a car before. I bought an 8 foot small clear tubing from the fish tank section at walmart. I got it about 3 or 4 feet down the fill hole but it did not touch the gas. I couldn't get it in any further. The car is/was parked on a 5 degree hill nose down. As I'm pretty strapped for cash I'd like to get the gas into my Malibu.

I thank you for any help.

AFAIK, filler necks are designed to make siphoning difficult.

Don't siphon by mouth. Todays gasoline has lotsa stuff that is really bad to ingest. I would go with disconnecting a fuel line and running the pump.

You could try to disconnect the fuel line at the fuel rail, attach another hose to it and then into your containers, then just turn the key and let the fuel pump do all the work. I've never tried this, but it should work.

You could always jack the car up and take off the main fuel line going into the main pump. Take off the line and have a large enough container ready to catch it. If you do this also remember the take off the gas cap the get it to flow.

Let's see that's about $80 using California prices; but, I recommend you don't mess with gasoline: If you inhale any of the gasoline while trying to suck start it flowing, it could lead to damaged lungs and other long-term health problems. And, of course if you work with any open container, there's always the danger of an explosion.

Having said that, perhaps a dealer might be able to suggest a safer way to recover the fuel.
