front end repair 700 1991

91 740, 225,000 miles. had front end inspected, and car has 1 bent tie rod and needs lower control arm bushings replaced. shop quoted me a price of 200.00 labor, which includes a front end alignment. is this something i can do in the carport, or do i need special tools? i bought my parts from "my swedish parts.com" & they are all made in southeast asia>?< i sure wasan't expecting that. thanks, Steve

I've got a whole new set of bushings waiting to go in now and I'm not really looking forward to the job. I think you'd be hard pressed to find that kind of labor price around here (Maryland) that includes an alignment. I'd expect about $350.00 in labor here.

Bent tie rod end?
You can replace tie rod ends OK,
Sometimes needing heavy duty heat to free frozen threads.
and I hear there is some junk coming out of China,
but since everything comes from there, buy from
a reputable place such as FCP and they will make good.
(and they steer away from bad parts)

Front end alignment is a function of quality equipment and quality
workmanship. Ask where the local garages send their alignment jobs.
Then you might get lucky and get a good job.
Around here (Boston) alignment is $40-65.

Bill
