With the rear seats folded, what is the longest length you can put in a 740 wagon(not diagonally) and still close the tailgate?

Well . . . close to 6 feet sounds right. I brought home my Snap-On KRL 751/756 toolbox combo in it, with nearly a foot to spare, and it is just over 5' tall. I also own the car specifically to haul three Great Danes around in it. The two big boys are well over five feet long when they lie down sphinx style, and there is plenty of room for them and their "little" (102 lbs, 29" high at the shoulder) sister, so . . .

Edit: come to think of it, I brought home a pair of 80" X 36" 15-lite doors in mine, and they only barely needed to rest on the top of the headrests.

Love what MTerry said about what you can haul in these things, AND being able to do it with heated leather seats, A/C comfort, etc. Let's not forget classic, clean good looks either.

Thanks. And my '92 Tercel is still going with 329,000 on it.

Long enough to carry home an Ikea double bed. When assembled, a queen size mattress will fit the frame.

I work for a sign company. A 4' x 6' piece of plywood fits with the front edge on the tops of the folded rear seats and the sides on the wheel wells. I do it all the time. This means that your brick can hold roughly the same cargo as any small pickup with a cap, and do it with heated leather seats and power windows.

FYI: A 7/900 series wagon will also hold a full-size soda machine, a 1950's jukebox, and a full-size organ with bench, all with the hatch closed. Been there. Done that.

This may be a world's record, but we put an armoire in the back of our '88 754 GLE that had

A top that measures - 42-3/4' X 27-1/2"

Bigger than the tailgate opening! We had to angle it to one side to get it started. The top touched both grab handles.

A base that measures = 36" X 25-1/4"

AND 76-1/4" TALL!

We had the seats all the way forward and upright, and our knees were touching our chins - I'm 6' and my wife is 5'9"!

I had a medium sized motorcycle in the back of mine, hatch closed and all... :)

Amazing. I can't imagine the effort required to load and unload it. How far did you need to travel with it?

I was going up to school, about 300 miles. I drained all the fluids, removed the plastic and front forks/wheel, laid it down on a board and suckered two friends into helping me load it in. A trailer was about $100 bucks and I'm cheap, also, I did it because I could ;)

Prolly 5'10" I think. I'm 6'2" and the back is a few inches short. ;-)
