i also have an 88t think it's a k
i hear the 92-94 are better to reprogram "chip" with wideband O2 mainley the ecu though

have a look at Turbobricks http://forums.turbobricks.com/
heaps of info and knowledgeable people.
The K block is fine but, the later 92-94 blocks have stronger rods, and some have oil squirters. This can help when trying to hold a higher output motor together.
Changing the whole ECU system from Bosh LH 2.2 to LH 2.4 I think is not worth the effort. You can re-chip your 2.2 system.

The chipping on the LH 2.2 effects the fuel map. So on extended boost(above 10psi) the car is getting the correct Air/fuel ratio.
It is a matter of changing some components in the Fuel ECU and a remapped chip.

Your other option is to go an after market ECU that can be remapped via a laptop.
Allot of the Turbobricks guys use Megasquirt.

There is a FAQ around that takes you through stages of tunning the B230 motors.
