Gas Gauge & Speedometer work intermittently 700

I have a '91 740. The speedometer will work and then won't work and the gas gauge does the same thing. I read a post that said that there is a connector inside of the rear driver's side wheel well that could be losing a connection. I can't find that connection. It seems like a loose ground. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated...especially if you have photos of any of this. Thanks

    The gas guage and speedo have a common +VDC from the 12 pin connector
    pin 6 then a red wire to Alternator D+ connection.

    Pull the alternator brush holder out and see if the brushes are gonzo.
    Or maybe the D+ wire is ratty/loose.
