Hi there,

It depends on which year you have, whether you need to remove the motor support bosses from the housing. There's a photo of me doing so on an 84 you can see on this page http://cleanflametrap.com .

Did you get the resistor pack on the correct side of the mount when you put the bolts in to the motor? If you put that in between the motor and the bracket, it will cause the motor to be out of alignment and the blades to rub. It should be Motor to braket, resistor pack, then the nut. You should be able to spin the vanes by hand without any rubbing.

Wonder how I know to check that?

Good Times......

Good Luck,

PT

...now the fans don't clear the iner houseing for the caseing.

Usually if the new motor differs from the old, one turbine blade will be too close and not clear the housing, the other blade will be too far out and the housing cover won't fit on. Is that what you have?

First, be sure you have not mixed the blades left for right.

Second, you may indeed have to remove material from the motor mounting places.

I used a utility knife to carve off the mounts little by little. They must be carved evenly because otherwise the motor winds up twisted in the housing, another PITA to find and fix.

Good Luck,

Bob
