Ford Is Going To Sell Volvo ???? 200 1986

Saw in the news that Ford is planning to sell Volvo. They have only owned Volvo for less then 10x years. I thought that Volvo was one of Fords few profitable divisions. Why would Ford sell Volvo ?? If they indeed do sell Volvo who would buy it ? Would Ford selling Volvo be a good or a bad thing ?

Looks like the asking price will be 8 Billion: http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070715/ford_volvo.html?.v=4

I'm not sure what would be best for volvo as a company, ie. if BMW or a private equity firm buys them up. I suspect the best would be if Volvo management in conjunction with an equity group buyout would be best for the first five years, and even better long term if Management could buy itself back after that time.

Just some random ideas... maybe the BB can scrape together $8Billion!

That's what I thought:) Some companies are Employee Owned, Volvo would be Fringer-Owned.

What would our management philosophy be?

      1) Bring back the 240
      2) Redesign the #$%@&^ blower motor!

Ford needs Volvo, but it needs CASH more.

BMW was in negotiations to purchase. Maybe a Korean can raise the money. It is going to take about 7 billion US.
