adding a steering wheel 120-130

Howdy all,
I am wanting to put a different steering whell on my 122. i am looking at a used Nardi, with a leather wheel and aluminum spokes. I want the used on so that it looks right with my old car.
My questions is if anyone has put a differnt steering wheel on thier car? The wheel (off of ebay) is just the wheel and the center cap. Anyone know what I will need to get it to attack to my car. Is there a perticular adapter that I need?

Thanks
Kent

I have a Nardi leather and alloy wheel on my Amazon, I think it looks period and is nice to use, I found an adaptor quite easily via the web, can't remember where but it wasn't a problem, one thing to note is that Nardi has different bolt spacing to Momo and most otehr wheels so you won;t be able to change he wheel to a differnt brand later, Nardi is cooler anyway.

I changed a Momo wheel on an Alfa Romeo for a Moto-Lita wheel by having a plate made up with the bolt pattern of both on it. This worked very well. The bolt pattern of the Moto-Lita wheel is a lot wider than the Momo one which did make it easier to have it made up. Not sure if the Nardi one is like this but it might work for that as well.
I am not sure how to put a photo as an attachment here but if you want to see this plate maybe I can email it to you

I liked the look of the stock wheel on my '66 but found the grip thin, hard and uncomfortable after an hour or so of driving. Of course it is so large in diameter that there don't seem to be any off-the-shelf covers to fit it. I ended up going to a rubber supply place and getting some foam rubber tube (I think it was a pipe insulation) and then ordering a 'wheelskins' leather cover to fit over it. A little tedious lacing up the leather, but I got to keep the stock wheel and now have a fat and comfortable grip.

Not specifically answering your inquiry, but an option to consider.

Try www.mot-lita.co.uk. They do steering wheels and boss kits for both 120 & 140 Volvos. A bit pricey but very good. I have one on my 142S.
Go into the website and follow the prompts.

Moto-lita may use a different bolt pattern than Nardi where the wheel itself mounts to the hub. Make sure before you order.

You want the wheel to attack your car??? :)

Seriously, though. Not much will fit that steering shaft. I tried a later 1800 wheel once and it was quite pointless. I think the early 1800 wheels do fit, and the GT wheels of course. The circa 1972 140 bowtie wheel might as the 68 120 had the same wheel style.

these guys:

sell a variety of wheels and a single hub adapter type. I was looking through the site a few weeks ago and there are several nice looking options.

If the link does not take you to the "Grant" steering wheel hubs, just search for "122 volvo" There's a linked application guide.

Or you could do what the PO before me did.... ::bangs head::

I could not understand how (or why) he got a Chevy racing wheel unto those splines. As it turns out, he must have been a good welder with a lot of time on his hands because he took the steering column, cut off it off about halfway up the shaft and welded the latter end of a Chevy column with the smaller splines to fit the wheel. I was scratching my head for awhile until i pulled the column for further inspection and saw the weld bead. Luckily I was able to rescue the original from my parts car. If anyone wants that column, its all theirs for shipping (Ill include the wheel too!)

Only in Texas...

Tyler

I'm running a nice Momo wheel on my 122. Just needs a hub adapter. Check eBay for hub adapters...

You need a hub adapter for a Nardi wheel to fit your year 122. (140 and later is different)

The good news is that Nardi, Personal, and Momo (all Italian companies that have been around since the 50s, or even longer) wheels usually all take the same hub adapters, and since 245GTI has one, that means the one you need exists. Track one down for yourself, and the actual installation is pretty straightforward.
