windshield wiper replacement 200 1990

Dear brickboard,(1990 240sw,199000m) while I was recently driving through a monsoon, my old windshield wiper motor(W.W.M) failed. Easy enough to replace. Went to local junkyard and bought two @$15.00 each. Things never being this simple,it seems an ongoing windshield gasket leak has raised havoc under my dash. My new(er) W.W.M. works fine, but when turned off, won't return to down or off position, it just stops wherever. Also,my intermittant wiper setting doesn't intermit,it just does slow speed. Is this return function tied into the W.W.relay?There is also a switch arrangement inside the motor itself(3 arms ridig on cam where wires going into WWM)which seems like it might control that.Where the heck is Interm.W.W.relay located under dash? Thanks for any insight.

Wish I knew where that relay lived.

However, the "Stops Wherever" syndrome is easy. The park system requires a Hot-all-the-time wire. When the stalk switch is shut off, power to run the motor comes from that wire. That, too, is shut off when that cam you saw comes 'round and opens a set of contacts in there. You have lost that hot wire somewhere along the way. Inside the motor housing on en route to it.

Good Luck,

Bob
