Will not start stranded!...neutral safty swith relay or? 700 1987

Went out to dinner from work tonight. I found that the car would not start when I retuned to it. It was almost as if the neutral safty swith was not working. if this was the case how would I go about getting the car home. Is their a relay or am i barking up the woring tree. Thank for any information, Nick.

Well, you weren't clear. It doesn't start, or doesn't crank Over? Which is it?

It sounds like the shifter pin that engages the switch has slipped out and is not moving the switch. All it takes is a two screws from the shift cover to have a look.

If you think it is the neutral safety switch and need to get the car home, buy some wire that you can connect to the starter (12V switch on solenoid). With the key on pos II, you can touch the other end of the wire to the battery and bypass the safety switch. Be careful that the car is not in gear when you start it though. If this starts your car, the problem is most likely that switch.

      good luck
