transmission filter gaskets 200 1982

Still learning the interface. Hope this goes in rwd 200.
I accidentally posted following under TOOLS area. That can be deleted. Thanks.
Getting thisproject out of the garage and bak on street.......

Last thing is transmission filter/gaskets and rear seal installation.

Question.

The "kit" I ordered and all those I saw on-line had only one gasket on the filter in transmission. I got the kit. I removed the old filter and found only one gasket next to the case. The metal spacer was next and no gasket between it and the filter plate.

It was only later that I began to wonder about the gasket. It did not make sense to have only one. So, I joined brickboard and found the answer. There are supposed to be two gaskets. Some "Kit".

My question. Is it worth it to go back, drain the fluid, pull filter, yada, yada, just to put in another gasket? Is it really needed? It worked before. 170K.

Thanks

Hi There,
Volvo put out a TSB to say don't bother with the filter maintenance any more which makes sense as all it does is keep out bits of gear tooth not metal particles. It is worth putting a Magnefine filter from IPD in the line from the transmission to the radiator heat exchanger. The best way is to buy two oil drain kits from IPD and use the barbed fittings from one to connect to the rad and the pipe. That way you sidestep the need to cut the metal pipe to install the filter. If it worked OK I would not worry about another gasket.
Regards,
Charlie.

Thanks.

I was replacing a leaky pan filter anyway and also a PO had twisted off one pan bolt. Also put a compression fitting in the line to cooler to fix a worn hole in line, hope it holds. Next time around I'll add the magnefine at that joint.
