Fuel pump / (vacuum?) problem - '91 940 Turbo wagon 900 1991

Howdy.

I've run into a huge fuel injection problem. I have a '91 940 Turbo Wagon. Last night, out of the blue, as I was driving on the interstate, I lost all fuel pressure. The gas pedal became completely unresponsive, but the engine was still running. No warning lights came on. I coasted into the next exit ramp, and by the time I came to a stop, the engine had cut off. Once stopped, it would turn over, but not start.

Here's what I know so far...

- When I turn the key to "ON", without turning it over, the fuel pump comes on for the second and a half.

- In the last few weeks, a vacuum leak has come up (I only know this because, when I accelerate, the a/c fan cuts out). I don't know where the leak is yet.

Could the vacuum leak have something to do with the fuel stoppage? Where should I start first?

Thanks for any help. I'm still a newbie and trying to learn as much as I can.

Tommy

I would check her for a broken timing belt, first thing.

Look in the oil fill hole while someone turns over the engine, and check if the camshaft is going round and round, and/or pull the front timing belt cover to take a good look.

Sumerduckman!

I just realized that I never said thank you for your help. You were exactly correct- Broken timing belt was the culprit.

Thanks.

If that is turning then check to see if you have spark. If you have spark, crack the fuel line at fuel rail, did fuel squirt out, No, then you have fuel problem, yes, then its something else. Pauli
