Assuming it's some kind of 700 series, and you've perhaps gotten numbers instead of letters when you transcribed the VIN, the K in the 10th digit means it's a 1989, and the 2 after that indicates a "Volvo Europe" factory, i.e. a car built in Belgium. Many 740s came from the Belgium factory, so that correlates.
Maybe it's YV1FA- ? Though I didn't think it would be FA until 1990 when airbags were standard... anyway doesn't matter.
If it is indeed a Turbo engine, you've probably got a LH 2.2 car on your hands, but with the check engine diagnostic package I'm not totally sure.
See if it's got a crank sensor on the top of the trans, or a wiring harness plug to the bottom of the distributor. A 1989 NA engine should be LH2.4 and have a crank sensor. A 1989 Turbo should have a connection on the dist for a hall sensor, making it LH 2.2.
What wonders we find in the junkyards...
