97 S90 headlight wipers S90-V90

My 1997 S90 headlight wipers sometime work sometime don't, and when they work, they often won't return to the rest positions when I turn them off. Am I going to need new wiper motors?

Probably will need to replace them. I did mine about a year ago for the same reason. Worst part is this is another only available from Volvo part. If I remember they are at least $130 each. That $130 was with my VCOA discount.

Thanks. I'll call the dealer to see how much they are, but I'm sure I'll be a few hundreds $$$ poorer :)

I like to have them for the winter season. I had many night drives when I had to pull over and clean the headlights with snow just to see the road. What an epiphany to be able to see the road especially in the conditions where there is just enough salt and crud to hit the headlights and cook on to the lens into a near opaque crust.
If you are willing to wait you can find them on Ebay in the $50 dollar range. That is what I did. They are pretty fragile, so you need to make sure that they are not frozen in place by ice or you will be buying them again.

Thanks Bob. Now I know why Volvo put these headlight wipers there. But we never have snow, so I may just disconnect them.

As a alternative (if the wipers are important to you. Check out: http://car-part.com/ . It connects you to all the junk yards in North America (US, Canada and Mexico). I once got an ABS modulator that would have cost new: $3,000 for only $140. The ABS modulator and my old van are both going strong.

My wipers don't work either so I looked at junk yards around me and they are going for about $50. However, since the motors seem to be fragile to start with, I decided not to bother with them.

            Hope this helps.

            Best Regards,
            Stan

I had a problem with mine and just took the wiper portion off. They are useless anyways. No way Id spend $260 to replace them.
