'90 240 DL wagon heat 200 1990

I've read some of the posts here and I'm still not clear on something.
My '90 240 hot/cold slider is not very effective. I can get it to cut heat in the extreme cold position. However, any position off of far left results in what feels like full heat. There is no modulation at all. The other end of the cable does move the heater control valve. Will replacing the valve let me modulate the heat better or is this "the way they are"? It seems to me that if the cable moves the valve, I should be able to modulate the heat effectively. If a new valve is in order, do I want an "old" style or "new" style? From which vendor?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

My 1986 244GLhas that ailment, too. Here in Houston, relatively moderate climate, it is not a problem for me.

Another technique, additional to Sven's pa, is to vary the air between outside and recirculating. Outside, of a cold day, should get things a little cooler.

If you just can't stand it, a new water valve is the only solution that I know about.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

My '86 240 did that. I didn't want to fix it/get it fixed so I would slide it fully off or slightly on every minute or two. Drove my wife nuts. That method worked pretty well if conditions were such that I could keep all air vents closed, with just some heat seeping through into the cabin.

I think the problem has to be the valve. Take a look at fcpgroton.com for replacments; their listings are more informative than most. Should be part of their heating/cooling section.

Thanks for the replies. It seems that you suspect the heater valve as do I. Can anyone tell me definitely that replacing the valve will solve my problem?
