Warning(!) to all IPD fans .... 200

I just got the new IPD catalog for 200/700/900s (47th Edition), and they've changed the format. I'm not sure I like the presentation or not, but what surprised and disappointed me is that they've done away with many of the helpful "exploded parts" diagrams!

For example, the first of the things that immediately struck me are that the torque rod & panhard rod diagram on the top of pg 13 of the 46th edition is left out of the new 47th. Likewise, the bushings illustrations for 200s (on pg 15) and for 700/900s (on pg 17) of last year's edition is likewise gone from the new edition. I'll miss them.
Not all are gone, however -- they've kept the relay location and flame trap configuration sketches.
A few of the "Tech Tip" sidebars are also gone, but happily many have been retained.
I haven't had time (it just arrived this afternoon) to do a thorough census of what's gone and what's not, though.

In all, I just want to suggest that you don't just reflexively toss your old catalog in the trash (to make room on your bookshelf?) as soon as this newest one arrives in the mailbox -- you may want to hold on to that worn 46th edition at least until you're sure you can get along without it.

Regards to all.

Darn, as I get back into 240 frame of maintenance, I need all the help I can get. I have not received a catalog from them for a while. I suppose you get "erased", so to say, after a year or two.

I expect that's not the only thing that's changed - I bet the prices have crept up a good bit too. I've watched IPD's prices climb for the last couple years.

FCP Groton and eEuroparts have remained the same. I will grant that IPD is an irreplacable source for a few things (like sway bars) but for eveything that can be bought elsewhere, they're just overpriced.

I didn't click "reply" to bash IPD, I respect their efforts, and their catalogs are (were?) amazing fun to flip through and very informative. But another reason I avoid IPD is their insane shipping costs and the fact that it can take over a week to get an order here on the East Coast. I recently ordered a new tail light from Tasca Auto Group (RI, I think) and some bushings from eEuroparts (CT). They both showed up on my porch less than 48 hours after ordering. Between higher prices, higher shipping costs, and MUCH longer shipping times, IPD just can't compete here.

Maybe if IPD offered free shipping (the cost of which should easliy be offset by their higher prices) I would be more likely to order from them, and I expect others would feel the same.

OK, complaining over, sorry it was a bit off-topic.

I have kept every single catalog and update flyer I have ever recieved from them...it's just as good a collection of information as a haynes manual. My next thing to get is the complete collection of VCOA magazine on cd-rom!

I agree with you about the flyers and newsletters ... 200

I agree with you about the flyers or newsletters -- they usually include some very useful info, well worth keeping. It's just the major catalogs that will take up some space over a time -- I usually throw my old ones out, since prices and availability (viz., discontinued stuff) changes. I'm glad I checked the new one first -- magazine recycle day was the next day and I would have lost it, but I held it for the next collection day -- now I'm glad I did.

      Regards,

performance products did away with all the exploded views and pictorial listings for the mb 190e a couple of years back - all the 109e bulletin boards were screaming for everyone to save their old catalogs. now that ipd seems to be 'phasing' out the helpful pictures and hints for the 240, i'm kinda getting the hint i'm driving dinosaurs! (wilma, i'm home!).
