wiper actuator arm reattachment 200

1986 245, the wiper actuator arm cable sliped off the pully on the drivers side. I can get access once the instruments have been removed. My question is: is there a trick or method to reattaching the actuator arm cable to the pully. I am up for a frustrating proceedure but if someone has some guiding tips I am open to hear them.

Thanks, Mike - Yukonbrick

In addition to Bob's advice, perhaps you may find Art's pictures useful:

I don't know all the tricks, having not been "blessed: with this failure, but perhaps additional visibility would help.

First I would be absolutely sure the cable has slipped off, and not that the arm won't work because of slippage in the arm connection to the center post - easily checked by flipping up the arm plastic cover (carefully, they are old, brittle, and hard to replace)and see if the center nut is turning while the arm remains idle while the wiper motor is running.

Then I would pull the glove box out, and then attempt to get out the speaker delete grille.

That grille, in the center of the dash, is held in place using a pair of little prongs on each corner. The easy route - squeezing the prongs together a little - will probably result in breaking them off. They are very brittle. BTDT Try gently prying up at each corner.

Good Luck,

Bob
