D-Jet parts 1800

I read with interest the comments to ColinSpikes' posting on modifying the D-Jet system.

My -72 with B20E is so far running OK, but I expect problems in the future, first with the MAP sensor (the hand grenade) because a PO has done some kind of funny repair to it. Secondly, the idle when cold is not good at all, most likely because the thermo valve thingy close to the thermostate (forgot what it's called...) is not working at all. When hot, the engine runs great however.

I have searched the market for both these parts, so far without success. The MAP can be found, but at really stiff prices (USD 1.000 +). The thermo thingy seems to have been out of stock for ages.

I live in Scandinavia, but would gladly order such parts from the US if they are available. Are these parts still on stock there, or are there alternatives or possible modifications? Last question: As my engine is a B20E, will a MAP from a B20F of approximately the same year be similar?

One of the late 1990s issues of "Rolling" magazine has an extensive article on all the D-Jet components and troubleshooting the systems. You can get the entire set from the VCOA.

D-Jet parts Testing 1-2 1800

Ok, it IS the Pressure Sensor
Down and dirty field test;
Suck on the hose if diaphram is bad it leaks.
[It should hold vacuume]
Green Book '[bible]'
"Pressure Sensor/Checking"
"Measure the resistance between the terminal points.
The resistance should be approx. 90 ohms between
7 and 15 [primary winding].
Approx. 350 ohms between 8 and 10
[secondary winding].
All other combinations should give"flat 8" [infinate] resistance."

The aneroid part can die too, it makes the engine run rich, but it will pass the suck test.

I buy a LOT of parts on ebay including D-jet parts and have a few spares,
both mapsensors and temp sensors.

How do you know the temp sensor is not working? Is it connected?

Do you have the D-jet manual? They show up on ebay also.

You should check the resistance of the sensor at a couple different temps
to tell whether or not it is working. Should be between 1500-2000 ohms.
Maybe a check before starting and a check when it is up to operating temp
would be revealing.

If your engine runs at all the MAP sensor is at least working, if not well.
What kind of mods/repairs have been done to it?

I would stick to the plan as long as
possible,at least then you are dealing
with a known set of variables.
BTW I am de-commissioning a
good running 73-145-E next week.

There is no such thing as a dumb question,
unless it answers itself! Seriously though, it is a
Parts car from Bellingham Washington,
it rains alot there,terminal cancer.
Flintstones floorboards!
It will donate engine and a cross flow radiator conversion,
to make a Cali-1972 M 40, 145-E [really F] operable.
Re: FINE WAGON, Yes; The finest made.
WAY OUT WEST ! Yes: In Sunset District, San Francisco, 1/4 mile from the Ocean.

Off topic - SF & Bellingham 1800

My wife and I celebrated our engagement and our first birthday together
at the Cliff House in November 1961. We may go back someday. I understand
it is still there.
We know about rain every day - we lived in Panama for 22 years. Even with low
salt it is hard to keep them nice in that. I think my 164 lived there longer
than I did, since I bought it there in October 71 from a fellow who had had it
for 2 years. I have done some floor and tire well work on it.

SF -Boneyard/Parts are Parts 1800

George,
Yes the Cliff House is still there, just remodeled in fact.
I know what you are saying, but the '73-145 is shot.
HE has a bad clutch, exaust, all body panels are dented and or rusted thru,
and the pine needles have made their way into the rocker panels!
Also those ugly front marker lights, horrible roof rack, and 240 door handles,
crappy looking grill;I gotta be honest here, just not my cup of tea.
Got 4 of 'Em ,the shame is gonna be the '69 Rambo BRG 145-S /AT
She was looking a little rough when parked but looking better,relitavely,lately....
Anyone? I got an orphan that wants to follow you home.

Ola:
I Love my '72 ES.
Are you looking for NEW or working used parts?
George is correct, obscure NOS/NLA parts are
popping up on E-Bay all the time.
RPR Has good inventory.
