Headlight bowl to fender gasket 120-130 1967

Anybody know a source of supply for the rubber gasket that goes between the outer headlight bowl and the fender? Or a part number? I've searched all the catalogs I could find without success. I did find the gasket for a B16 car but it is different. I know because I bought them by mistake.

Thanks,

Barry

Barry,

I did a major clean up of the headlight bowl (and all the stuff associated with the headlight). When I removed the bowl, there were remmnants of putty (its like plumbers putty). You can purchase butyl putty from IPD (I got a roll from a local RV sales and service place - used to seal windows and other openings on house trailers, etc.)

So I just rolled out a long string of the stuff and put it on the perimeter of the part of the bowl that meets the fender. You can remove the bowl no problem and yet maintain a seal. If you a removing the front fenders, you will need a bunch more of the stuff as it is used in various spots throught the car.

Seems to work fine.

Are you sure there is a gasket? There was one on the P1200 up to chassis number 73184 and the catalog states Volvo went to a "plastic seal compound" on subsequent P1200 models. I did not have one on my B16 1960 (VIN 046279) and did not see any in the parts catalogs for any B18 or B20 122 models.

Hmmm... That would certainly explain my difficulty in finding a part number. However I have two pieces of evidence that suggest (but don't prove) there was a gasket. First is the attached photo from a Volvo catalog and second when I pulled the bowls out, there were the remnants of gaskets that matched this photo. The fenders were replaced about 10 years ago (long before my son owned the car); however I don't know if that helps explain anything.
I note that the CVI catalog, which has an almost identical photo on p. 24, does not show a gasket.
Assuming that a gasket isn't available, what are the recommended "plastic seal compounds"?

Thanks,

Barry

Barry, my eyes must be worse than I thought. I saw the same picture in the B18 & B20 122 parts catalogues (yes, I'm Canadian too!) and there is no seal evident. I can see what appears to be the rim of the fender opening. I would suggest an automotive silicon seal, not something that would make disassembly impossible. BTW, I do not have these gaskets on my B16 Amazon, but the bucket fits well regardless. Here's the B16 reference to the gasket.

My goodness, yes, what appears to be a gasket in the picture I posted could easily be the fender opening. I will abandon my search for gaskets and use sealant instead. BTW the 88051 gaskets in your picture are what I have in hand, having mistakenly purchased them for the B18 car. Thanks, Cam.

I dunno about you guys... 120-130 1967

Perhaps it was not stock/original, but all my classic volvos have sealed bean headlights. The 140 was the only one that was supposed to have reflectors.

I did not see evidence of a gasket when I replcaed my 122's fenders and nose, but my P1800 definitely has the gaskets you describe.
