Where can I get a 740 headlight bulb today?

Bulb burned out last night. I'd buy one online, but I might get a ticket in the meantime while it's en route. Anyone know if a Joe-Schmo auto-repair shop would carry one? Or do I have to find an auto-parts store?

BTW, I've never done this before. Do I just raise the hood, pull out the lens, and screw the bulb in?

(That sounds like some joke--how many Volvo nuts does it take to change a lightbulb? Feel free to suggest punchlines.)

Thanks!

John,

Don't touch the glass lamp envelope when installing the replacement bulb. Oil from your skin can cause the bulb to burn out quickly, as the halogen light capsule gets extremely hot. Handle the bulb by the plastic collar/base and keep your fingers away from the glass portion when you put it in place.

Anywhere automotive lights are sold, even Wal-Mart.

Stay away from the fancy styles as they can do more harm than good. Just get a basic name brand bulb.

It's a very common 9004 bulb found in any KMart, Walmart or most convenience stores. Just rotate the lock ring, pull out the old buld (might take a little wiggling to loosen it),and replace it with a new one.

Thanks, Steve.

So as far as getting the lens off, do I have to raise the hood? It just pulls out, right?

The bulb comes out from the rear of the assembly. You most certainly do not want to take the lens off! I think the owner's manual has a little write up for you.
