leaking gas 120-130 1967

hey i was just given a 122S volvo for free and was a ble to sart it up, and its missing a brake lines, which i was able to find a place in new york that sells them.

my question it seems to be leaking gas from under the air filters, is this coming from the carbuerators, what could be the problem?
i have never worked with a car this old, i work on jeeps, so any help?

The most common reason those carbs leak has to do with the carbs.
These sites will get you started with the right adjustments:
    http:www.sw-em.com and
    vclassics.com

You could also do an archive search on this site.

Need to get a more accurate idea where the gas is coming from.
There are several things there that could leak.
Take the air cleaners off and you can see better.

If the car has sat for a while, a likely cause is that the floats in carburetors are stuck in the down (open) position, allowing gas to flow in continuously. It the overflows the float bowls and runs down onto the exhaust manifold. Not a good situation.

The fix is relatively easy. There are three screws holding the top on each float bowl. Take the air filters off for better access, then take the top off the bowls (do them one at a time to avoid inadvertent swapping of parts) Carefully clean everything and put it back together. Hopefully the leak will be fixed.

Also a good idea to replace all the rubber hoses. Cheap insurance.

Sometimes the seals dry up or the flexible tubes crack on the line from the
float to the jet on those also. That's why I suggested taking off the
air cleaners. Although not a really simple repair you can replace those
tubes. Most folks just replace the jets complete though.

The black plastic thing is an elbow that connects the hose from the
float bowl to the jet tube. Usually the hose, jet and elbow are replaced
as one unit but the Scottish sometimes just replace the hose.
(especially if a complete jet assembly is not available)
If you separate the jet tube from the elbow you destroy it (normally).
