220 rear hatch window question 120-130 1968

Does anyone know what the material used in the (estate/wagon) rear hatch window is? On my car at least, this is not glass but some sort of plastic, perhaps Lexan or some other sort of plexiglass-like material(seems harder than either of these to me). I would like to remove/polish some fine scratches on the outside surface but am not sure what to use.

TIA
OK

Originals are tempered glass. Some folks have had to replace busted ones with tempered glass.

I buy every one I can find when they present themselves in salvage yards... windshields, and sedan rear windows too. Really all glass for that matter!

      Speaking of glass 120-130 1968

Well, I have just been out to look at the 'glass' on my car and everything has a little Volvo logo with what I take to be a Bull below it - the exceptions are the rear window in question (nothing), the windshield (LOF and 'safety') and the passenger side roll up window which has the Volvo logo but instead of the bull says "(scandex)" with the parands.
So, the glass is orig. except for the windshield, back glass, and passenger window (maybe sourced from some other 122). Does that sound right to you guys who know Volvo glass?
P.S. If anyone has a passenger side window with the Bull symbol I would be interested - just to make a set, the windshield and back whatever are more than I want to deal with right now!

      TIA
      OK

    220 rear hatch window question 120-130 1968

There is a glass window in mine and I beieve
it is original. I had another wagon, that I recently
I sold to a forum member, and it had
a plexiglass side window in the rear.
Looked very nice but I am sure it was
    a replacement. The rear(tailgate) window
on that wagon was glass as well.

    cheers,

    Karl

    220 rear hatch window question 120-130 1968

    It's supposed to be glass.

I knew a car with a plexi-glass rear window...it was tan or maybe white...light green? Used to live here in Portland.

I don't know how to get scratches out if Meguiars plastic polish and plastic cleaner won't do it.

Personally, I'd want to change that back to glass ASAP.

    Best,
    Shayne.

      220 rear hatch window question 120-130 1968

      Hi Shayne:
I think that this window came with the car, it certainly looks like it. Of course I don't know for sure, but if it is a replacement someone did a very professional job. It has never leaked and is still clear, only the faint scratches are a problem. Was the window in the car you saw in Portland a replacement?

      TIA
      OK

        220 rear hatch window question 120-130 1968

The car in Portland looked like it had a very professional installation; they used the correct rubber gasket, tight fit, etc...It was VERY scratched and did not look that great. I assume it was not original, it does not seem very "Volvo" to use plexi-glass.
I bet Mike or Shayne could sell you a Glass version but I don't know if you could convince either of them to ship such a fragile item.

Mike, how many " 'Dead" stickers on your spares?

        Best,
        Shayne.

          220 rear hatch window question 120-130 1968

If you are here in Portland, I have a number of rear windows for a wagon and am starting to part out a whole wagon... Off the top of my head, I couldn't tell you exactly which Volvo marking they have on them but they are original.... I am more than happy to deliver locally....

          Bug me off list...
