any tricks for turbo o2 sensor replacement? 200 1983

hey guys, i got a new o2 sensor for my turbo and this seems like its going to be the most rediculous thing to try and change. It is located on the underside of the exhaust manifold right in the center....placed above the oil cooler lines and above/next to the oil filter. I have tried 3 different types of o2 sensor sockets and there is just not enough room up there to do anything. it looks as if i'm going to have to remove the oil cooler lines, filter, and the oil drain tube for the turbo to even get a better angle at it. are there any better ways to go about this precedure? seems to be a lot more of a hassle than it should be. any suggestions would be great, Thanks

hi there.
i bought a offset 02 sensor wrench from auto zone part# 25249. and was barely able to remove the 02 sensor.
Harry Houdini would have been proud.
since then i replaced the cracked manifold with one from a 740 which does not have the 02 sensor in the manifold, so i had a bung welded in the in the 90 at the top of the downpipe where its easy to get at.
good luck
mike

The book calls for a "crow foot" wrench, I didn't have much luck with one so I bent a box wrench and used it. If you have a big vise, hammer and torch you might try bending one up out of an old 7/8" wrench. I don't have a 240T any more but I kept the wrench.

i copied your wrench design and it worked perfectly...i had the old one out and the new one installed in 5 minutes! i really appreciate it. with that new sensor the car is running beautifully, the smoking has almost completely ceased and it sounds like a sewing machine just like it should.
thanks again!

wow thats a good idea, i'll have to try it. knowing how tight those things get up in there, how did you get enough torque on it to pop it loose?
i'll try makin one of those in the mean time
