what kind of gas mileage do you get? 200

I just bought a '90 manual transmission wagon and was wondering what kind of gas mileage I should be getting? I drive pretty conservatively so I am hoping to get better than my old truck which sucked up gas like crazy.

    AW-70 auto tranny

20-22 in town and 24-28 highway. Lately, I've been lucky to get 25, but I probably need a new O2 sensor!

      Biodiesel? 200

More info than expected. Thanks all. I bet i'll get better than my old truck that was earning about 15-18 mpg.

Hopefully i'll throw a TDI or old diesel engine this bad boy some day. Any of you have any knowledge on such matters?
      Kev

Just to put things in perspective:
My 854T gets 18 around town, always short trips, gear selector in "3" - never drive.
My V70R averages 24 combined, with highway speeds between 70-80mph.
My 164E has a 3 speed auto and if the wind is at my back, I can squeeze 18mpg at a steady 60mph.

Modern technology has increased mpg in my stable. I never calculated the milage by my Wrangler, it has a 3" lift and the rpm =1600 at 65. Those 28X12 inch tires dont help any.

I get between 23-24 with an auto trans. Probably will improve with the warmer weather.

My '91 244 gets about 19MPG city and 24MPG highway...'88 244 gets about 35MPG highway and 30ishMPG city...In case you're wondering why the MPG is so high for my '88, it needs a new catalytic converter, hence the high MPG haha..

I too have a 1990 245DL with manual transmission. My wagon just turned 326,000 miles during a trip to Portland and back (575 miles roundtrip) and averaged 25 mpg. I leave my Thule roof rack on all the time but I do have a wind deflector for my rack.

My `93 245(auto) has been getting 21-23mpg city & 23-26mpg highway. Driving more conservatively does help a lot w/MPGs with these cars. After all, they are bricks...probably the only other modern vehicle with a higher coefficient of drag would be a Hummer. Yes...windtunnel engineers do, indeed, laugh at us.

I have an 89 245 with auto trans and I average around 21 mpg. Some of the other members here with 240's that have a manual trans boast that they get closer to 30 mpg but I'm not so sure that's true?

    Best of luck...

30 mpg is indeed true! I also have a 1990 240 wagon with a manual trans. On the highway during long trips I've consistently gone 300+ miles on 10 gallons of gas. What's scary is I've also gotten mid-20's driving mostly in-town! That's driving on 93 octane, and I've been told by friends that I drive like Grandma... though apparently my New England driving habits are considered slightly agressive in Ohio, but that's another story.

I haven't been getting quite the same results as of late. Methinks the fuel system needs a little TLC right now. I can't imagine the used, rebuilt AMM is helping things... ;)

      Have fun!
