Turbo Gauge Cluster Install 200 1992

Greetings all,

I've recently acquired a 3 gauge cluster (from a Turbo, I'm assuming, and thank you very much, Ebay) and have been reading the associated previous comments - so I've got a handle (maybe) on installing the voltmeter and oil pressure gauge. I'm wondering though, about the wiring harness - I take it that the later models aren't prewired for this harness (whereas the tach is - or should be prewired)? Can I acquire and fit a harness to the B230F engine to mate with this? Or is that more work than just individually wiring the volt/oilpress gauges?

Thanks,

Lanval

All the harness in the Turbos does is make things very simple for you. The wiring connections are all the same.

The voltmeter for instance can go to any switched, unused fuse terminal- look closely at the fusebox and you'll see a couple. Verify which ones go off using a voltmeter or test light.

Thanks, Aye Roll (nice pun, BTW). I'll take that to mean 'they ain't no harness to hook to, and they ain't gonna be.'

Having read the board, I've already ordered the pressure sender and adapter from egauges (at least I think I ordered the right one - better check).

Looking from the back, the voltmeter is in the left position, the oil pressure is center, and turbo is right. We'll be ignoring the turbo, although I saw some people are using it as a pressure gauge. Feel free to make a suggestion, if you think it's worth the effort on that one. On to the wiring:

      Left (voltmeter)
      top plug (light I'm assuming)
      - two brown wires
      - one black wire

      The brown wires
      - one goes to the same location plug on the oil pressure (again light)
      - one goes to the light plug on the turbo, which then sends another out to the main harness

      The black wire
      - goes to small plug (light) on top of the oil pressure gauge

      bottom plug (voltmeter)
      - two black wires
      - one red/blue wire

      The black wires
      - one goes to the lower plug on the oil pressure, which sends another to a spade connection marked with an upside down "T". That spade sends another black wire out to the harness
      - one goes to the small plug (light) on the voltmeter

      The red/blue wire
      - goes to another red/blue wire on the oil pressure, which goes out to the harness.

The black wires are all located in plugs which have an upside down "T" next to them. The blue/red likewise, with a "+". On the oil pressure gauge in the middle, there is a green wire which goes direct to the harness.

      ********

Whew. So, as I read this,

      black = to ground
red/blue = to 12 v power (wire to fuse #1 or #13 - I've seen conflicting comments on older posts
green = to oil pressure sender
brown = splice to other instrument lights...? Can I wire this directly to a fuse?

Thanks for the patience - though I'm confident in my mechanical skills, electricity is something I don't understand. Pretty sad, actually, when I worked for an EE software co. for years.

If a picture would help, I'll post one.

      Best,

      Lanval

        hi there
your post seem to make it confusing to me. (back of guages are marked)
oil pressure guage = run wire from G on guage to G on oil pressure sender.
run wire from upside down T on guage to ground.
run wire from + on guage to fuse #1.
run brown wire on light to dimmer switch (there is a extra spade connector) or tie into existing brown (instrument lighting) behind center console.
run black wire from light to ground. (or tie all grounds together for all guages)

volt guage = run + from guage to fuse #1 (or tie to above +12 wire)
run upside down T to ground. (or tie to previous grounds)
        lighting same as above.
this is how i have done it to the best of my memory.
i cut up the turbo harness and splice to better suit my needs. check this website out. maybe make a vacume type guage out of the boost guage.

        good luck

Yah, hardknocks, too many years in school... thanks, that looks easy enough. I'll try it and post pix when I'm done.

          Best,

          Lanval
