Dear abnergf,
May this find you well. You don't have to spend $600 on a new speedo.
Here's why: the speedo in my '93 940 failed. I sent a used replacement speedo to be re-set to the actual mileage (+50 miles, traveled during down-time) to: APT Instruments, 9632 Humboldt Ave S, Bloomington, MN 55431(Tel: 952-881-7095;Fax: 952-881-2680; www.gaugeguys.com).
For $45 + 15 return shipping, they re-set it. I installed it, and it has worked perfectly. The installation is not hard to do. I can provide step-by-step guidance.
I'm sure you can arrange with APT - by calling and giving them a credit card account number:
(a) fo them to receive a unit from Paulii
(b) to re-set it to your mileage
(c) to send it to you.
If they can't use your credit card, you can send APT a Cashier's Check, drawn in US dollars on a New York bank, many of which have branches in Abu Dhabi. This check will not incur any special handling charges: it will be the same as a check issued by a bank in the US.
Even with shipping (reimbursing Paulii's shipment costs to APT and APT's to you via FedEx or DHL), this will cost far less than getting a new unit.
I have a complete 95 instrument cluster (37,073 miles), which I'm willing to sell for a modest sum. The speedo records distance in miles, but shows speeds in miles/hour and Km/hour. I do not know, if APT can adjust it, so the distance traveled is shown in kilometers.
Hope this helps.
Yours faithfully,
spook
