LH 2.2 timing adjustable?

Didn't see anything in FAQ.

It is, but I would point out I have never had to adjust the timing in 20 years with LH 2.2. Get the belt on right?

The belt is on right (checked about 3 times and even removed spark plug #1 to verify TDC).

The one bizarro thing I noticed when doing T-belt is cam roll pin was bent when I removed..? I had turn the engine over using cam gear and wondered if maybe I had done that myself.

But possibly the car timed according to the variation caused by bend in roll pin. I need to get a timing light and verify.

      Harmonic balancer rubber seemed tight.

Norm-Sounds like a close call with the pin! Get her straightened out and check the timing.

As you say, get a timing light and check.

I have never needed to adjust ignition timing in any of my 240s. (1975 - 1988, none turbo.)

        Good Luck,

The spec is 12±2° @ 750 rpm. Vac hose to Chrysler ICU disconnected and plugged for timing check/adjustment.

Nothing in FAQ because 700/900 didn't have LH 2.2 FI, as far as I know. Not sure if any had the Volvo/Chrysler ignition, which is really central to your question.

Now that I look at the whole thread (sorry), I see more knowledgable responses a few posts down.

Quite common on '85-'88 700 series. Used '85-'89 on the 700 Turbo.

Actually no.. You can move it a little, but if its off a bunch..check your timing belt/pulley marks.

the dist plate is on a slotted housing—IE it is looks like it is designed for movement.

cam/crank marks aligned to 0TDC (verified by removing plug).

LH2.2 is fuel injection. Its timing is based on the ignition system which might be Bosch or Chrysler depending on what model Volvo you might be talking about - all adjustable by moving the distributor during the years LH2.2 was used for fuel.

Sorenson called it. Take a look at your mass meter, does it have a round plug on it where you can adjust the fuel mix? If it does then you have an LH 2.2 or earlier system and all you need do is loosen the dist and twist it and you will changed the timing. In the later cars you can still twist the dist it just will not make a difference because the engine speed sensor is no longer located in the dist on those models. As he also pointed out, LH 2.2 is the fuel injection and not the ignition. I am a California wrench and all of the LH 2.2 systems I have worked on had either Chrysler (240) or Bosch (700) systems in them and are adjustable.
