Throttle position switch compatibility 200

Are the throttle position switch assemblies from 1989 (LH2.4) through 1992 (LH3.1) interchangeable? Trying to start up a fresh engine (LH3.1) and it is running so fat it floods unless the gas pedal is on the floor. The ECU check code returned a 4-1-1 (throttle position switch problem). No other codes are thrown.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
jorrell

LH3.1 uses the same TPS as the 850. The LH3.1 throttle body is different too, and you can't just bolt up the LH3.1/850 style TPS to the earlier TB.

Assume you know if you have LH3.1 or not, but the easy way to tell is that the AMM uses a 4-wire plug, rather than the wider 6-wire plug of LH2.2/LH2.4. And the LH3.1 ECU is most likely a 572 (non-EGR). I have one of these cars.

Thanks for the input folks. When I put this engine back together, I used the throttle body and TPS off of an LH2.4 B230F since I had already cleaned it and mirror polished it. This car is truly an LH3.1 and originally had an M47 trans, I have converted it to an AW-70 auto... now its a real oddity in that Volvo never made a 92 with LH3.1 and an auto trans.

Could I interest anyone in a polished (on the outside) LH2.4 compatible throttle body? Live and learn!

      Thanks!

The LH 3.1 TPS is more than a switch--it has a built-in potentiometer (see pages 241-19 and 241-20 in Bentley). So it is very possible that having a 2.2 or 2.4 TPS in there is indeed causing the problem. But are you sure it's a 3.1? They are not common most places.

For parts compatibility, the first place I go is to fcpgroton.com to see if they sell the same part number for both vehicles. You may be able to determine your answer there or at another online site.

Having said that, I don't think your TPS is all of your problem and maybe not any of it. The TPS is just an on-off switch and when I have misadjusted the switch (and the time I accidentally left it unplugged), my engine "idled" much faster, maybe 1500 RPM, but not wildly fast and it didn't keep the car from running in any case.
