Points have not been used in anything in years. It still has a distributor strictly as a means to plumb the spark plug wires. Instead of a set of points it now runs somekind of engine speed sensor and an ignition control unit. Your '90 year model 700 series car should have an engine speed sensor that is mounted in the top of the transmission bell housing and it reads off of the flex plate. You can go so far as to twist your distributor around with the engine running and watch the timing marks not move. It seems odd at first but when you realize that the reference sensor is no longer in the dist it makes all the sense in the world. Hope that clears it up a little for you.
